Colts Western Steakhouse brings United States to Jesmond

A new American-themed restaurant, Colts Western Steakhouse, which opened 13 weeks ago on Holly Avenue West, is attracting customers with its live music and food.

The steakhouse is somewhat different from the Italian restaurants for which Jesmond is famous. It hopes to offer a change for locals looking for something different in their dining experience.

Its owners are new to the restaurant business. Lisa Nash, the manager of the steakhouse, said that “our main source of inspiration was a five-week trip to Texas this summer, checking out the fun, lively steak houses there.”

As well as the food – a wide range of American classics including homemade burgers, specialty skewers, chicken dishes, salads and various steaks going up to the 34oz Tomahawk – Colts Western Steakhouse also took inspiration from the United States for its décor, which includes wood panelling, cowboy boots and authentic hats.

“The menu was created with the owners and the chefs, to mix what was learned from the trip to the States,” said Nash. “Our chefs both have been in the business for years working in top hotels and restaurants.”

Vegetarians need not worry: the chefs have non-meat options for diners.

Apart from all the food and steaks, Colts Western Steakhouse also provides a function room upstairs which can hold up to 34 people to host all kinds of party, including birthday parties, Christmas parties and other occasions..

Along with the function room, live performers from the local area play country and western music.

“I think that’s something new in Jesmond: you have something to eat and someone is singing as well,” said Nash. “Our main goal in the restaurant is not only to have great food but to also create a fun atmosphere. We pride ourselves on a fantastic team that know how to have fun.”

Jim Clark, one of the live performers at the steakhouse, said he thought the venue was “excellent. I like the atmosphere. It’s lovely. I really enjoy it.”
