Two men have been arrested by Northumbria Police on suspicion of robbery after two armed robbers attacked Jesmond’s Jules B clothing shop on Acorn Road on Wednesday morning.

The men, aged 27 and 29, are in police custody while enquiries remain ongoing.

At 9:29am Northumbria Police received reports that two men wearing balaclavas entered the shop armed with a knife and a handgun, and stole money and clothing.

The first was described as being around 6ft tall and of slim build. The second man is around 5ft8 to 5ft9ins tall and also of slim build.

They fled in a silver Hyundai i20 hatchback car in the direction of Osborne Road.

The initial call about the robbery was received from Groves letting agent next door to Jules B, JesmondLocal understands.

Police have released CCTV images of the incident, in which the men can be seen brandishing a knife and a gun.  No injuries were reported at the incident, confirmed by Jules B management.

Central Superintendent Christina Barrett said: “A full investigation of this incident is underway and a team of detectives are carrying out enquiries to try and find those responsible.

“The area of Acorn Road will have been really busy around 9:30am this morning and I’d urge anyone who might have been in the area and seen the two men, or the car, around the time before the robbery happened to contact us and pass on any information.

“Thankfully nobody was injured during this incident however the staff members have been left incredibly shaken and we will be supporting them. Jesmond is a tight knit local community and we know that everyone – local residents and local businesses – will rally round and support one another and give all of our officers the help they need.”

Northumbria Police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident, saw two men in a silver/blue car in the area this morning, or who have any info that could help enquiries to ring 101 ext 69191 quoting ref number 226 as soon as possible.
