New hair salon hopes to “wow” Jesmond
A new hair salon, which opened today (Wednesday 30 November), has created seven new jobs.
Two of those new posts at W-Salon, a former schoolwear shop on the corner of St George’s Terrace and Tavistock Road, are apprenticeships. Over the next few days a promotional team will be rollerskating through Jesmond handing out 50% discount cards for those on their first visit to W-Salon.
Salon owner Jo Ingham told JesmondLocal: “We opened today but we’re having an opening night on Friday at 7.30pm, with drinks and canapés. We’re also going to be offering a loyalty scheme for our regular customers.”
“The W- stands for “wow” or “wonderful”, which is what we hope the salon will be.”
There are several salons in Jesmond already, but Ingham thinks hers will have a wide appeal: “Some of the other salons are aimed at different customers. Some are trendy and attract the younger generation and others are a little more traditional and attract the older generation – I think our salon will sit nicely in the middle, everyone is welcome.“
We sent JesmondLocal reporter and guinea pig Kerstin Vogel to be W-Salon’s first customer. “I’m really pleased with my haircut – I didn’t want to go for anything too extravagant,” said Vogel. “The stylist, Sam, was very friendly and did an excellent job. I’d definitely go again.”
