Jesmond dentist collects national award
Osborne Dental practice has attended an awards ceremony in London to collect a trophy made by Newcastle-based artist Jane Charles.
The practice has been crowned Best Dental Association (BDA) Practice Scheme Practice of the Year 2011.
Principal dentist Onkar Dhanoya said: “We were delighted to be invited to London to collect our trophy…. We were particularly pleased to know that the trophy had been created by a North East artist, Jane Charles. It is wonderful to see local talent being recognised on a national scale and we look forward to displaying Jane’s work in our practice.”
Back in Jesmond, the practice hosted an open evening to celebrate its award with colleagues from the university dental school, suppliers, labs, patients, friends and family who have supported the practice. Thomas Lennard, professor of breast and endocrine surgery and a patient at Osborne Dental also attended the event. The professor opened Osborne Dental in 2003 following an extensive refurbishment.
Dr Onkar claims that to develop the practice even further, focus will now be placed on providing more treatments in facial aesthetics and on selling pharmaceuticals.
Students are encouraged to register with a local dental practice. Non-EEA full-time students studying in the UK for six months or more are entitled to the same health care benefits as UK residents and are eligible to receive full health care under the NHS.
