Northumbria Police have asked local residents for information following a series of sexual assaults, the latest of which occurred in Jesmond Dene.

The latest such attack occurred as a female jogger was running over the footbridge in Jesmond Dene around 10am on Wednesday April 29th. A slim black male, in his 20s, between 5’7″ and 6′ tall grabbed the jogger and touched her innappropriately.

The man was wearing a red coloured football top and black tracksuit bottoms with a white stripe down the leg and wearing white headphones in his ears.

This follows an earlier incident on Saturday April 25th, when a man matching the same description exposed himself in Jesmond Dene. Around midday the following day, a suspect the police believe could be the same man exposed himself on Barrack Road, before boarding a bus into Newcastle. On that day, he was wearing a cap and black t-shirt.

Neighbourhood Inspector Neil Brotherton said: “These incidents all happened in and around Jesmond Dene, during the morning between 10am and midday.

“I would ask members of the public to be vigilant, if you see anyone matching this description in the area, please contact the police immediately.”

Inspector Brotherton sought to reassure residents. “Neighbourhood officers are patrolling the areas and surrounding streets,” he said. “I’d ask that anyone with any concerns speak to them.”
