Filmore & Union brings Yorkshire-style healthy eating to Jesmond
Yorkshire based food and drink chain Filmore & Union opens on Acorn Road this Thursday (14 December 2017) and JesmondLocal has had a first-look.
The company was founded in 2011 by Adele Ashley, a former wellness clinic owner who says she was disheartened by the lack of natural, wholesome food which tasted good, and could be enjoyed in a comfortable setting.
The menu ranges from breakfast and lunches to afternoon tea and evening dishes. The drinks menu spans fresh juices, turmeric lattes and cocktails. Filmore & Union likes to promote an “independent feel” and the restaurant is also family and dog friendly.
So far, the company has opened restaurants in eight locations, including York, Harrogate, Skipton and Beverly as well as York and Newcastle train stations. “When we started looking for new locations outside of Yorkshire, Newcastle was the obvious choice for us and Jesmond fits with our ethos of bringing exciting new food and drink trends to suburban towns with residents who want more than your average cuisine on the high street,” says Ashley. “We can’t wait to see what local people think.”
Emma Spark, who has previously managed the Central Station branch, has been training at the York and Harrogate restaurants in preparation for the opening in Jesmond. “Filmore & Union will be the type of place where you can turn up in your gym gear or work wear, or just come in for a chill-out and relax with the dog or your kids,” she says.
There are plans to add an outdoor seating area to the the Acorn Road site in time for next summer. The restaurant will be open 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday, 8am to 7pm on Saturdays and 9am-6pm on Sundays. The restaurant is offering a 20% discount to students and a 50% discount on juices to customers who take a selfie outside the restaurant. The chain will also be adding a branch within the John Lewis store in Newcastle city centre early next year.
