JesmondLocal to host live hustings debate on April 24th
JesmondLocal will host its annual local election hustings event at Jesmond Library on Tuesday April 24th from 7:30pm to 9:30pm.
This will be a Question-Time style event where residents of North and South Jesmond will have the chance to put questions to all the candidates standing for the six council seats up for election on May 3rd.
With 22 candidates in total standing for election across North and South Jesmond, there will be a variety of views and opinions to take into consideration before casting your vote.
A wide range of topics will be discussed and the structure of the event will allow for candidates standing in both North and South Jesmond to speak on issues that are important to their wards.
“These events – which to the best of our knowledge are one of the few, if not the only, local election hustings regularly held in Newcastle – are a real chance for residents to quiz the candidates standing for election,” said JesmondLocal news editor Chris Stokel-Walker.
“We’d really encourage residents to come along as this is a fantastic opportunity to hear from the current and prospective councillors, and get their views on current issues and plans for the future of your community,” he added.
“No other news organisation, big or small, offers residents the opportunity to hear from the candidates they can vote forin the local elections in such an in-depth and in-person way.”
JesmondLocal will also have comprehensive coverage of the event on the night, with a live blog taking place and a Facebook Live stream, as well as follow-up stories from the night.
The event is not ticketed, though seats will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. To show your interest or that you would like to come along to the event check out the Facebook page here.
