Local cafe scores major collab with Fenwick
Café Filto in Sandyford has scored a major collaboration with department store Fenwick following significant success after only 10 weeks in business.
The cafe, located on Goldspink Lane in Sandyford, opened on August 29th, serving coffee, brunch, tapas and cocktails, among other offerings.
Filto, which uniquely serves its iced matcha and coffee in cans, has now collaborated with Fenwick with a pop-up shop located inside the department store serving their products.
Dom Johnson, co-owner of Cafe Filto, told JesmondLocal: “Partnering with a brand like Fenwick is a really proud moment for us, especially only 10 weeks into our journey. Anyone from the North East knows that Fenwick is a flagship retail store in the region.”
He added: “To have our product and our brand represented there feels genuinly special. It’s a huge vote of confidence and a milestone we’re incredibly grateful to be hitting so early.”
Johnson told JesmondLocal: “I think Filto has been successful because we’ve tried to offer something a little different to what most cafes in Newcastle provide.”
He added: “We try to make Filto a place where absolutely everyone feels welcome, including the furry friends. Once people come in, try the food, and get a feel for the atmosphere, we’re lucky that many choose to come back as regular customers.”
Fenwick, owned by the Fenwick family, opened its first store in Newcastle in 1882 and now has stores in Bracknell, Brent Cross, Canterbury, Colchester, Kingston, Tunbridge Wells and York.
The store is known for supplying luxury clothing as well as beauty and homeware products. Previously, the department store has partnered with Michelin star restaurant Hjem, cocktail bar Mother Mercy and Greggs, including Greggs champagne bar, among others.
Customer Esme Furgeson told JesmondLocal: “I have been to the café in Sandyford before and was really excited to here they were opening a stand in Fenwicks, particularly as that means I can get a drink from there whilst I am in town for uni.”
Furgeson added: “Although I already knew about Filto, some of my friends have heard about it through its collaboration with Fenwick. I think it’s really good for a smaller business to get this kind of opportunity and visibility.”
