Jesmond Vale bus passengers face two-week diversion during roadworks
Bus passengers in Jesmond Vale face almost two weeks of disruption from today (Thursday, October 29th) as Stagecoach services 32 and 32A are diverted during roadworks. The buses will bypass Jesmond Vale until Friday, November 13th, while Springbank Road and parts of Goldspink Lane are resurfaced.
The affected roads will be closed to vehicles during the works, with parking permits on those roads also suspended. Several bus stops will be temporarily out of service, leaving some residents facing longer journeys on foot to catch a bus.
Newcastle University student Myles Maclagan, who lives in Jesmond Vale and regularly uses the 32 and 32A services, said the changes would affect his daily routine. “It’s going to be really annoying, I’m going to have to walk further to uni, to the gym, into town,” he said. “I reckon it’s going to double my travel time at least, which is really bad for efficiency.”
Another Jesmond Vale resident, Susan Haywood, expressed concern about the impact on older passengers in a Facebook comment. “The bus deprivation denies transport for the elderly,” she wrote. “Money [would be] better spent on affordable housing or adult social care.”

Which bus stops are affected?
According to the Stagecoach website, the following stops will not be served during the diversion:
- Jesmond Vale Springbank Road–Blue Bell (W-bound/E-bound): Springbank Road, opposite the Blue Bell Public House.
- Jesmond Vale Springbank Road (W-bound): Springbank Road, near the junction with Goldspink Lane.
- Jesmond Vale Dinsdale Road (NE-bound): Dinsdale Road, near the junction with Goldspink Lane.
There will be no replacement service to these stops during the roadworks, although alternative stops will remain available. Passengers at the southern end of Jesmond Vale can use the Warwick Street–Stadium stop, which will continue to be served by the 32 and 32A.
Those at the northern end can use stops on Sandyford Road, where several services run to different parts of Newcastle. Passengers can also check services at the Sandyford Road–Cemetery stop.
JesmondLocal approached Stagecoach for comment but had received no response by the time of publication.
