JesmondLocal continues its series of interviews ahead of this week’s local elections with North East Party candidate Brian Moore. A former Newcastle City Councillor for the Liberal Democrats, Moore hopes to bring his experience to the people of South Jesmond and says he is committed to stopping HMOs as well as doubling funding towards Operation Oak.
Ahead of next Thursday’s local elections, JesmondLocal spoke with Martin Evison who hopes to claim the South Jesmond seat for Reform UK. Evison, a former professor at Northumbria University, says the pandemic has had detrimental consequences for younger generations and hopes for the opportunity to support local health and care organisations if elected.
More details are emerging about a plan to expand licensing of landlords in Jesmond, and the reaction so far is decidedly mixed, with some predicting the proposals could cost landlords around £2,500 per property.
Tenants renting houses and flats in Jesmond say they hope contentious proposals by Newcastle City Council will prevent landlords from letting out dirty, damaged and dangerous properties.
