Waitrose contractor on schedule to complete in six weeks
Work on the new Waitrose convenience store on Osborne Road is well underway, and on target to open for business in early November, according to main contractor, Leeds-based firm RG Group.
Jesmond Local chief reporter Sophie Bauckham popped into the former Osborne Road Garage site this week to speak with project manager Hayley Thornton and take a look at the developments. Watch the video to find out how work is progressing behind the hoardings.
Six weeks away from completion, Thornton says RG is on schedule with the construction. “The steel frame work is up now, and we are working on the rest of the groundwork in order to get the concrete slab poured, and brick work finished, with a view to getting the shell water tight by 3rd October.”
“Feedback from the community has been mostly positive, and we have tried to minimise the impact by keeping all the work self-contained,” Thornton said. “RG operates an open-door approach to site operations and likes the local community to feel part of it. We have open mornings each Friday from 10am, so feel free to pop in and and have a look around.”
