JesmondLocal to host live election debate on 30th April
JesmondLocal will host its annual local election hustings event at Jesmond Library on Tuesday April 30th from 7:30pm to 9:30pm.
This will be a Question-Time style event where residents of North and South Jesmond will have the chance to put questions to all the candidates standing for the six council seats up for election on May 2nd.
With nine candidates standing for election in both North and South Jesmond, there will be a variety of views and opinions to take into consideration before casting your vote.
A wide range of topics will be discussed and the structure of the event will allow for candidates standing in both North and South Jesmond to speak on issues that are important to their wards.
“It’s a tradition that we host our annual hustings event, and this year is no different,” said JesmondLocal news editor Chris Stokel-Walker. “It’s more important than ever in our current political climate that those standing for election get the change to engage with the people they seek to represent – and vice versa.
“We’d really encourage residents to come along as this is a fantastic opportunity to hear from the current and prospective councillors, and get their views on current issues and plans for the future of your community,” he added
JesmondLocal will also have comprehensive coverage of the event on the night, with a live blog taking place, as well as follow-up stories from the night.
The event is not ticketed, though seats will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
