Jesmond candidates announced for council elections

Newcastle City Council has confirmed the names of the contenders for North and South Jesmond’s council seats in the May 2nd local elections .

One council seat is up for grabs in each ward. Three candidates will challenge the sitting Liberal Democrat councillor Gerry Keating for the North Jesmond seat, while five candidates are set to fight for the position left empty by former Labour councillor Judy Pearce in South Jesmond.

The candidates for the North Jesmond ward are: Alex Hay for Labour, Gerry Keating for the Liberal Democrats, Kitty Lau for the Conservatives and Tony Waterson for the Greens.

In the South Jesmond ward, the contenders are: Clare Pauline Andrews for the Greens, Deborah Elizabeth Burns for the Liberal Democrats, Martin Richard Levy for the Communist Party, Ian Macgilp for the Conservatives and Lesley Anne Storey for Labour.

In the lead up to the elections, JesmondLocal will be publishing profiles of each candidate and plans to hold a hustings event in Jesmond Library on the evening of Tuesday 30th April.
