Sneak preview of Jesmond’s singing nuns

Just when you thought panto season was over… Jesmond’s Holy, Holy, Holy Performance Group will be performing Robin Hood and the Singing Nuns at St Mary’s RC Comprehensive in Benton on Thursday 28th, Friday 29th and Saturday 30th January at 7pm.

The Holy Name of Jesus RC Church on Mitchell Avenue is home to the group which is made up of 47 parishioners and friends. According to the group’s Bernie Legg, the youngest performer is 4 and the oldest is 82.

“It’s a bit like Robin Hood meets the Sound of Music,” she says. “The nuns’ presence in the play provides a twist at the end. We have been rehearsing since October. Including all the backstage people and technicians, it involves around 60 people so is a true community theatre production. And we have transformed a large drama studio at the school in Benton into an intimate theatre space.”

Tickets for the performances are £6 each, or £4 for concessions.
