Award-winning jazz singer Sarah Ellen Hughes is performing at Jesmond’s Cherry Tree restaurant this evening.

Hughes was principal vocalist for three years with the National Youth Orchestra and now appears at many top London venues including Ronnie Scott’s, 606 club, and Pizza on the Park. She is promoting her debut album, Darning the Dream.

Hughes has been singing on the London jazz scene since 2006. Championed by leading vocalists Claire Martin and Ian Shaw, she has just released her album on Say So Records – a mix of standard songs and original tunes. The recording features Hughes’ quartet (Darren Altman, Rick Simpson, Tom Farmer/Andy Hamill) plus special appearances from Jim Hart, Dave O’Higgins and Ian Shaw.

The album was selected as UK Jazz Radio’s ‘CD of the month’ for both March and April 2010.

In April 2010 Sarah won an international jazz singing competition ‘Jazz Voices’ held in Lithuania.
