Have your say on Jesmond students

Would you like to contribute to a research project on the impact of students on Jesmond?

Newcastle University third-year geography student Maya Latham is seeking volunteers to help with her dissertation on the subject of Town vs. Gown, An investigation into the impacts of studentification: A case study of Jesmond, Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Latham says: “I am really interested to find out the personal views and experiences of the residents who live in this area, and understand any current or emerging challenges the residents may face with living amongst a growing student population.”

A critical part of her project is to undertake face-to-face research. “I would really like to run a focus group and interviews with a targeted group of residents – and I’m hoping that some readers of JesmondLocal will be interested in having an informal, insightful chat with me.”

Latham says she can assure participants in the research that any answers used will be anonymised. She says she is also happy to share with any participants her finished dissertation after its hand-in date in March.

If you’d like to take part, send Maya Latham an email to this address.
