Heaps wins Aquathlon again
The annual Fenham-to-Jesmond Triple 5 Aquathlon has been won by Chris Heaps for the second year running.
The event involves a 21 length swim in Fenham Pool, a run from Fenham to Jesmond, and a further swim in Jesmond Pool. Heaps completed this year’s challenge in 38 minutes and 14 seconds. The winner of the women’s event was Ellen Tullo, who finished in 40 minutes and 15 seconds.
Winners in the veterans’ classes were Mark Hindhaugh and Tracy Ann Smith.
The winners were presented with trophies by Paul Rea, chair of Jesmond Community Leisure and a regular runner with Jesmond Joggers. Event organiser Scott Armstrong expressed thanks to the volunteer marshalls and timekeepers.
This year’s event, which took place on September 2nd, was disrupted by congestion in and around Exhibition Park, caused by the “Race for Life”, which had been rescheduled from earlier in the year.
