Fit Over 50s restarts at Jesmond Pool and Gym after Covid closure

Jesmond Pool and Gym has been encouraging the local community to get back to exercising this month. Its Fit Over 50s sessions returned at the beginning of October following disruptions caused by the pandemic. Offering a range of activities, from table tennis to “Nifty Over 50 aerobics”, the health facility offers members a range of activities to help them get moving again, as well as improving their wellbeing.

After months of home workouts and online challenges, Jesmond Pool and Gym is welcoming back members, both old and new, promoting the relaunch via social media.

“We are just getting the over 50s back to their levels [of fitness] pre-Covid,” said operational manager Phil Drape. “And fingers crossed, we can do a little bit more.” As well as highlighting the popularity of the fitness sessions, Drape emphasised the “mental holistic approach” which has been introduced post-lockdown. As concerns about Covid-19 still remain, Drape said it was important that trainers build trust with members.

The Fit Over 50s sessions run on a Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with times varying from 10:45am to 2pm, giving members the chance to exercise with others of a similar age.
