Christmas carol concert brings Christmas spirit to Jesmond

A 33-year-old chamber choir – The Singers will bring Christmas spirit to Jesmond with a concert at St George’s church on Saturday, 17 December at 7pm.

“Christmas is the most beautiful source of inspiration for music,” Donald Halliday, the conductor of the singers, told JesmondLocal. Halliday believes that music can bring warmth to people. He said: “Although it’s been a cold winter this year, our Christmas spirit is not going to go away.”

A portion of the proceeds from this concert will be donated to help and maintain St George’s Church, to warm the hearts of more people.

The conductor, Donald Halliday, shares more detail about the concert.

For Halliday, Christmas concerts are one of the most important parts of the Christmas season, offering people a chance to “rejoice in the darkness, to enjoy the light and the fire”.

Mia Chen, a 21-year-old media student at Newcastle University, also agrees with Halliday. Chen believes some songs can instantly transport people to Christmas just by hearing them. “I think the Christmas concert is such a presence, it’s kind of common but for me it’s like the Star of Bethlehem on the Christmas tree. It’s an integral part of Christmas,” she added.

Tickets include a complimentary mulled wine and mince pie. Click here for more details.
