Jesmond Health Partnership practice on Osborne Avenue reopens today following internet outage
Jesmond Health Partnership’s branch at 5 Osborne Avenue has reopened this morning after a full-day closure caused by an internet outage that left staff unable to access essential clinical systems.
The GP practice announced that all “issues have been resolved” and that the site is fully operational again, following a statement yesterday that the branch would remain “closed until further notice” due to having no internet access.
A representative for Jesmond Health Partnership, which offers NHS healthcare services to patients across Jesmond, Heaton, Sandyford, Gosforth, and beyond, confirmed the issue was isolated to the Osborne Avenue site and access was cut off to its IT network, clinical systems, and web-based telephone lines. They said: “There was a technical issue with the internet connection. No calls were possible in and out of the building.”
Jesmond Health Partnership’s other sites on Osborne Road and at Gosforth Memorial continued operating normally throughout the disruption whilst staff at No. 5 worked with suppliers to resolve the fault. The representative said: “Like many practices, we are experiencing some winter pressures. However, we are very much open and patients can continue to contact us both online and by phone.”

They added: “We encourage patients who are able to use online services such as askmyGP and the NHS app, as these provide quicker access and help us manage demand more efficiently. This also helps ensure that patients who are not digitally connected can access our services by telephone more easily.”
Despite the closure to the branch – which saw over 89% of 339 patients rate Jesmond Health Partnership as Good or Very Good in the October 2025 NHS Family and Friends Test – patients reported no disruption to their care. Client Claire Oyston Farrage praised the “super” team at the practice. She said: “I’ve managed fine despite the closure and had responses on my askmyGP app that sorted my issue.”
An older patient, who asked not to be named, said that they’ve been consistently “impressed” with the practice’s services. They said: “I’ve used the askmyGP service a couple of times and it’s enabled a speedy delivery of prescription medication that’s worked.”
They added: “My experience of this practice has been one of excellent care.”
Nationally, digital access to GP services continues to expand. As of December 2025, 98.7% of practices in England offer online options for appointment requests, prescription queries, and non-urgent administrative tasks.
The Osborne Avenue branch is now running as normal, with online and telephone access remaining available for all patients.
