Festival parade – stewards needed

Changes to the way public events are policed mean that organisers of this month’s Jesmond Community Festival are seeking marshals and stewards for the Saturday parade which kicks off the festival.

The parade takes place at 11:00am on Saturday 13th March, beginning at St George’s Church and finishing at West Jesmond School. It will be led by the town crier and followed by carnival floats, vintage cars, musicians and entertainers. Organisers hope local people will join the parade with flags and in fancy dress.

Waiting for them at West Jesmond School on Tankerville Terrace will be a “Grand Festival Fair”, running from 12:30pm until 4pm in the schoolyard which will feature food, crafts, community market stalls and family fun activities. Entertainment will include performances from the 10th Avenue Street Band and demonstrations of Bangshees Boxercise and Farida Dance.
