Countdown begins to Jesmond Festival

Volunteering opportunities are still available for anyone who wants to get involved in Jesmond Community Festival – which is just a couple of weeks away.

With 69 events over 16 days organisers believer there is “something for everyone”.  The wide variety of events will be taking place in 24 different venues, in locations all over North and South Jesmond, giving the whole community a chance to try or experience something new: from mother-and-toddler events at Brandling Village Pre-School and Jesmond Nursery, to cupcake decorating at West Jesmond Primary School and magic workshops in Jesmond and Sandyford.

There’s a Junior Bands Night at Newcastle Cricket Club and the Festival Young Bands Night, both run by Jesmond Youth Music Group. A Student Showcase and Mirth Machine, both run by Newcastle University students, will take place at the British Legion. There will also be an orchestral concert, loads of choral music and readings, outdoor activities and several events targeted at 50-plus audiences.

It all starts off with the Festival Parade, Oxfam Open Air Stage, and Grand Festival Fair, all taking place on Saturday 19th March, and ends on Sunday 3rd April with an Open Day at the Northumberland Club and Heritage Tours of Jesmond Old Cemetery. Most of the events are free, or at very low cost.

To find out more about the upcoming festival a full programme is available here and a PDF version here. Alternatively a hard copy can be picked up from Oxfam Books and Music, Jesmond Library, or various other community venues.

The following is a list of events which may still be looking for volunteers to help:
