Jesmond Community Festival launches – video

The seventh Jesmond Community  Festival has been officially opened by Lord Mayor Cllr Brenda Hindmarsh. The launch at the New Northumbria Hotel on Osborne Road was accompanied by a performer on stilts (plus racoon),pan-piers, a hula-hoop queen and representatives from many of the community organisations and venues taking part in this year’s festival.

The launch kicked-off with the familiar face and bells of Chester-le-Street town crier Marjorie Dodds who delivered a poem that glimpsed into some of the 69 events to come over the next 16 days. During the launch JesmondLocal also grabbed the opportunity to speak to event organisers Chris Clarke and Chris Murtagh (watch our video below).

The festival itself commences this Saturday with a parade and grand fair, from 11am. JesmondLocal will have its own stall in the playground at West Jesmond School on Saturday afternoon, plus a “Pitch Your Event Tent” –  an opportunity for people involved in the festival to showcase their talents.

JesmondLocal’s team of reporters will be covering as many events as possible, but we’d like to hear your views too – we’re so keen, in fact, that we’re offering £30 of Waterstone’s vouchers to the best review we receive – simply email your review to editor@jesmondlocal.com.
