The perfect Jesmond Mother’s Day

We’ve all experienced the last-minute panic that comes with Mother’s Day. Another year has rolled around and you’ve realised – too late – that this weekend is the day you’re supposed to give back to the mum who raised you. Celebrated this year on 10th March (that’s two days time – don’t forget), by now you may not have the time to find the perfect present.

So why not try something different? Spend some time with the one who nurtured you this weekend with our ideal Mother’s Day celebration, all based in Jesmond.

10.00 – 11.00: Begin your Mother’s Day surprise by taking her out to Arlo Restaurant Cafe on Brentwood Avenue for a late breakfast. Sit back, reminisce and enjoy the informal yet stylish decor. The owner Lucas Morrison claims that their “hearty breakfasts will set you up for the day.”

11.00– 1.30: After filling up on your Arlo’s breakfast it’s time to flash the cash and hit the shops with mummykins. Just down the road from Arlo on Brentwood Avenue are Wooly Blue and Y & L. Both shops sell luxury gifts, cards and jewellery, and ought to be your first port of call for some retail-based gratitude to your mum.

After browsing through their shabby chic stock, stroll over the bridge and head to the shops of Acorn Road: Jules B, Gourmet Gifts, and Sara MacLeod Boutique are, between them, likely to have something to take mum’s fancy.

4.30 – 5.30: Jesmond Dene House isn’t just about the food: why not enjoy the scenery by taking a walk through the Dene, walking off that second cream cake?

5.30 – 6.30: By now you’re likely to be in need of a small break. But the perfect Mother’s Day isn’t over yet! Head home to relax and get ready for a meal and a few casual drinks on Osborne Road.
