Duo charged with robbery after Jules B armed attack named

Two men charged with robbery in connection with an alleged armed attack on Jesmond’s Jules B clothes shop on Acorn Road have been named by police.

27-year-old Mark Amis of Westbury Avenue in Newcastle, and Gareth Downey, 29, of Quay View, Wallsend have been charged with two counts of robbery, theft of a motor vehicle and arson offences.

Both men have been remanded in custody.

The duo have been charged in connection with two robberies, the latter of which occurred at Jules B on Acorn Road in Jesmond.

A day before the armed attack on Jules B, the Phone and Computer Care shop in Rudyerd Street, North Shields was also victim of a robbery.

The alleged attack on the Jesmond clothes shop occurred on Wednesday November 25th.

At 9:29am Northumbria Police received reports that two men wearing balaclavas entered the shop armed with a knife and a handgun, and stole money and clothing.

They fled in a silver Hyundai i20 hatchback car in the direction of Osborne Road.

The initial call about the robbery was received from Groves letting agent next door to Jules B, JesmondLocal understands.
