Ronnie Reid elected NUSU President
Ronnie Reid has been elected Newcastle University Students’ Union president.
Last week, JesmondLocal spoke to the four candidates, focusing on issues surrounding Jesmond.
Reid was asked about his views on current student-permanent residents relations and ways in which he would improve them, telling JesmondLocal he wants to “expand the discourse” and make events like Common Ground more frequent.
Reid also said he thought the university was doing a good job on spreading awareness about the issue and hoped to be able to make a coherent link “between union and university policy”.
He summarised by saying he wanted to increase the number of meetings, like Common Ground and to introduce “drop in surgeries, maybe in Jesmond…to allow residents to redress their grievances to me.”
