Man arrested after armed police called to Osborne Terrace

A 26-year-old man has been arrested and remains in police custody after police officers were called to an address in Jesmond yesterday (Monday 30th March).

Northumbria Police have confirmed that they were contacted just after 5pm yesterday by a caller expressing concern for the welfare of a man on Osborne Terrace in South Jesmond.

Emergency services attending found a man inside the address who was threatening to harm himself. Eyewitness say that armed police and a dog unit were also at the scene.

Following a stand-off lasting more than nine hours, a man was arrested at around 2.45am this morning. A Northumbria Police spokesperson said that “there is not believed to be any wider risk to the public.”
