Storm Malik wrought havoc on the north east in late January and early February, causing significant damage across the region – including in Jesmond.

As a result of the damage, Ross Waterston, event director of the weekly Jesmond Dene parkrun, in which participants complete a 5k circuit around the Dene, cancelled the run for a second time on February 5th.

Waterston said “the cancellation… is due to the amount of damage caused to the beautiful trees around Newcastle being too great to be cleared in a single week.”

That day, JesmondLocal went out to ask the Dene-goers what they thought of the obstruction caused by the storm.
