Pancake Day at JesmondLocal

It’s Shrove Tuesday – the one day in the year you can throw things aimlessly at the ceiling and no one will yell at you.

So to make your Pancake Day a roaring success, pop down to Stewart & Co on Brentwood Avenue to collect all your ingredients for the perfectly rounded pancake – including soya alternatives for the dairy intolerant among us – then follow this recipe for eight pancakes.

You will need:

2 eggs
½ pint/280ml milk
4oz/110g plain flour (4 heaped dessertspoons)
1 tbsp melted butter
(For those making lactose free try soy or lacto-free milk, soya butter.)

The Classic (1) – Maple syrup
The Classic (2) – Lemon juice and granulated sugar
Crepes Suzette – orange juice, sugar, cointreau
Chocolate Delight – hazelnut chocolate spread and vanilla ice cream
Nutty Mania – crushed hazelnuts with orange juice and sugar
Deeply Dangerous – softened mars bar, ice cream, cream and marshmallow
