And winner of best curry is…

Russell Lee’s Lamb Granzak was voted dish of the night when Jesmond’s Newcastle Cricket Club held its third annual Hot Hot Curry Night last Saturday (30th January). The sell-out crowd sampled a total of fifteen curries – plus associated hajis, chutneys and rice – all made by club members and local people.

Lee’s Lamb Granzak won the vote with an average score of 7.96 out of 10 – sweet victory for Lee who had previously come second with another dish inspired by his home town – Curry a la Grantham.

Manas, who only joined the club last summer, made a storming debut in runner-up spot, with his South Indian Style Chicken. A more traditional Chicken Korma came third with an average score of 7.37 out of 10. All three win prizes… plus the admiration of all at the cricket club.

Organiser Rob Creswick says club is grateful for all the support – funds raised during the evening will go to fund the club’s sports coaching programme, including developing girls’ cricket.

The next curry night will be in the autumn. Creswick says anyone who’d like to join the fray and make a curry is welcome to register their interest now via email – Robert.creswick@blueyonder.co.uk – or by leaving a message for him in the club.
