Student arrest prompts complaint against police

A formal complaint has been made to Northumbria Police after a house-party on Grosvenor Place in Jesmond was shut down at the end of November. Four people were arrested with one receiving a penalty notice for being drunk and disorderly. A Northumbria Police spokesperson said:

Cake Stories on Brentwood Avenue is opening its doors on Christmas Day from 11am to 1pm, offering free drinks and cakes in an attempt to alleviate loneliness and bring members of the community together.

“We’ve opened on Christmas Day every year since we started the business in 2015,” said Ben Evans, who owns and runs Cake Stories with wife Hannah.
